On Thursday, November 1st, Alpenglow Sports and Adventure Risk Challenge (ARC), an outdoor youth development non-profit, invite you to the 2nd annual Voices of Youth, Now and Beyond. ARC youth participants and alumni will read inspired poetry, share stories from their lives, and provide insights from ARC’s wilderness programs. The evening begins at 6:30PM at Alpenglow Sports in Tahoe City, California.

ARC’s mission is to empower underserved youth through integrated literacy and wilderness experiences. ARC facilitates 40-day and 25-day summer immersion courses for high school-aged youth in Tahoe, Yosemite, and Sequoia & Kings Canyon. In these beautiful natural settings, students learn wilderness skills, write personal reflective essays and poems, and experience dramatic shifts in the trajectory of their lives.

Voices of Youth, Now and Beyond is your opportunity to hear these courageous students share their stories. The poise and vulnerability of ARC alumni as they describe how the wilderness experiences transformed their lives is not only inspiring, but also truly showcases the benefits of ARC’s unique programming.

This year, ARC celebrated its 15th summer facilitating courses at UC Berkeley’s Sagehen Creek Field Station. Since 2004, the organization has provided over 5,200 student-days and over 62,000 student-hours of summer literacy and leadership instruction in the Tahoe/Truckee area. Each year over 100 Tahoe/Truckee youth are engaged in ARC’s year-round programs. Katie Zanto, ARC’s founder, will introduce the students at Voices of Youth, Now and Beyond and will share her inspiration for the creation of the program.

ARC youth receive full scholarships for their participation in summer and weekend programming. ARC relies on a combination of individual donations and grant funding to support its programming. Voices of Youth, Now and Beyond will give you the opportunity to make a financial donation and/or a donation of gently used outdoor equipment and apparel. Please attend with the intention of supporting ARC through a contribution. Complimentary drinks and appetizers provided by Za’s Lakefront will be served at 6:30 and ARC youth will share their stories starting at 7:30. If you cannot attend, donations can be made at adventureriskchallenge.org/donate-now.

About ARC

Since 2004, ARC has supported youth in developing skills in literacy, leadership, and life. “ARC’s mission is to empower underserved youth through integrated literacy and wilderness experiences.”

Now in its 15th year, ARC’s interactive and innovative year-round programming is rooted in the integration of rigorous academic instruction and outdoor education, and it truly changes lives. Participants are selected for their leadership potential, their willingness to learn and challenge themselves, their need for an experience that bolsters their academic and leadership skills, and their lack of access to meaningful and transformational experiences in the outdoors. About the Tailgate Talks

The Tailgate Talks have evolved at Alpenglow Sports over the past 10 years, but the principle of the nights remains the same; to bring the greater North Lake Tahoe community together to learn about and celebrate the various aspects of the mountains that we all love, at little to no cost. Bringing in a series of speakers and athletes passionate about their respective sports, the environment, and the greater community, the Tailgate Talks are the ultimate way to come together and connect with our neighbors. We look forward to seeing you there!
