I actually rode with Lon in the last leg of the 1982 RAAM, meeting him in New Jersey and riding into NYC. He was hallucinating at times, seeing walls in the middle of the rode. I kept reassuring him and, so, me and my friend (Geoff Claus) accompanied him over the GW bridge where the Wide World of Sports helicopter and car started filming us all.

I must have made 40 phone calls to ascertain his position. The logistics of meeting him on the road were horrible in those days where no one really had any cell phones.

If anyone has the film the the Wide World people took, I'd love to get a copy. I was there, age 32. It was VERY exciting to say the least.
