An abrupt reminder of life’s fine line

I heard the news over dinner last night and lost my appetite … I thought it was a mistake. Wait, what? Dean Potter? One of the greatest monkeys of all time, a pioneer of the vertical world.

Hearing the news of tragedy within a community I identify with and care for so much hits very close to home for me. In the case of last night’s fatal BASE jumping accident, it’s hard to imagine I was enjoying myย Saturdayย evening with lots of laughter and joy, while Dean and his friend Graham Hunt lay broken in the forest.ย  Life is chaos and sometimes is not fair.

Although I believe this pair of tragedies ended two lives too suddenly, I feel they left this world doing something they truly loved which is a small silver lining to an otherwise very sad event.

My thoughts go out to those left with holes in their hearts near and far, for we are all at a loss. Please cherish every day and every adventure.

Rest in Peace, Dean and Graham.
