The Big Sandy is back in 2017, for the 10th year of celebrating the Big Sandy Bridge!
Two years ago this race was held to help fund the resurfacing of the Big Sandy Bridge (namesake). We met our financial goal in 2015, through contributions we received from this race, through direct donations and from our partners and various agencies. Last year, Central California Off-Road Cyclists assembled a volunteer crew over several days and were able to resurface the entire bridge just before the wet season began. So this year you’ll all experience the newly resurfaced Big Sandy Bridge!
We are running the same courses as the last few year, with the simplified categories.
8:30 race start – Finegold Bay
This race starts at the finish line adding 15 miles of winding singletrack out to the Gorge, where we will have nuetral support (water and ride food for racers).
38 Mile Racers have a 2-hour cut off on the first 15 mile section to avoid cross-traffic.
10:40 race start San Joaquin River Gorge
The 23 mile route starts with a climb to the top of the ridge followed by one of the best singletrack downhills in the area before it joins the 15 miles of sweet singletrack along the contours of the river valley, finishing at Finegold Bay on Millerton Lake, joining the remainder of the course. Soar past wildflowers and the sparkling river to finish under shady trees and enjoy some food and drink.
