Little Marina Green
We are thrilled to present the 13th Annual Swim Across America – San Francisco Bay Area Swim. Proceeds from the swim will support cancer research and patient recovery at our two local beneficiary programs: UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland Research Institute and UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital San Francisco Survivors of Childhood Cancer Program. In 2017, thanks to the generosity of our participants, SAA – SF Bay Area gifted $620,000 to these programs.
On September 22nd, we meet at Little Marina Green in San Francisco, travel via the wheeled “Cable Car” fleet to Pier 43.5, and board a Red and White fleet boat for a cruise towards Alcatraz ending just under the Golden Gate Bridge. Once there, swimmers will jump into the Bay and, surrounded by a large fleet of safety boats and kayaks, swim 1.75 miles (we also have a .75 option) to Yacht Harbor Beach. Festivities follow at Little Marina Green.
All swimmers should be comfortable swimming in open water in the San Francisco Bay by the September 22nd date. We will have training sessions available at Aquatic Park and elsewhere, and recommend that swimmers take advantage of them. Swimmers will be required to wear wetsuits unless given approval by our Safety Co-Director to swim without one.
All swimmers must raise a minimum of $750 to support the cause. Those who feel particularly motivated to raise even more, can register as WaveMaker Swimmers which is a commitment to raise a minimum of $1500. We welcome you increase your fundraising efforts to help us “Make Waves to Fight Cancer!
