32nd Annual Squaw Valley Mountain Run / Hike – Sat August 4th 2012 @ 9am.

This year is the 32nd year that hundreds runners and hikers will climb the 3.6 mile mountain run to from the base of Squaw Valley (6200โ€™) to the resortโ€™s High Camp (8200โ€™)

Many runners say they love this event as it is one of the toughest runs they do all year, but not just serious runners make the climb โ€“ Last year 540 folks entered & organizers expect over 600 participants this year. Many come each year for the challenge and enjoy a great workout with amazing wildflowers and stunning views of Lake Tahoe and the High Sierra.

Last year the fastest time was 29:52.7 minutes set by Tahoe local JP Donovan from Incline Village. Kristin Walstad from Alta was the fastest woman with a time of 35:52.2

โ€œThe Squaw Valley Mountain Run is the perfect opportunity for the whole family to experience this beautiful mountain region on their own two feet. Many parents hike with their kids, choose to push a stroller or carry infants as an added challengeโ€ says Sally Jones โ€“ who organizes the event as a fundraiser for local Junior Nordic ski programs and The Tahoe Forest Cancer Center. โ€œPeople also do the event each year to celebrate life following personal struggles with cancer or in memory of a loved one who may have been less fortunate. 20% of event proceeds go to The Tahoe Forest Cancer Center to help cancer patients receive the treatment they needโ€ says Jones

Participants can choose to run or hike up to High camp, or For the less energetic โ€“ there is a guided Flower Walk up at High Camp on easy rolling terrain. (Flower walk participants get a free ride up & down the hill on the tram!)

The event is sponsored by Salomon and is part of La Sportiva Mountain series and attracts top runners from all over the US, as well as recreational runners and hikers.

All participants in the run / hike and flower hike will get a souvenir beer mug, beer (or lemonade for kids), snacks, free tram ride back down, & will be entered in the raffle for some great prizes donated by local businesses & ski areas. Awards for the uphill competitors will be given for top 3 places in 5 year age categories.
