Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area (RRCNCA) โ€“ a popular Las Vegas-area destination forย outdoor enthusiastsย across the globeย โ€“ is under threat of a massive housing development project that includes 5,000 homes. Clark County Commissioners are considering a requestย toย rezone land thatโ€™s currently deemed rural, which would result in the destruction of Red Rockโ€™s landscape, bringing pollution and traffic to the area and enraging the two million visitors who use the RRCNCA each year as a destination for climbing, hiking, biking and camping. The proposed development is on land that borders RRCNCA.

Save Red Rock (SRR) is a grass roots organization committed to protecting the rural, recreational, and scenic nature of Red Rock Canyon. The organization has a long history of success in safeguarding the area. The groupย is currentlyย rallying the support of outdoor enthusiasts and anyone in opposition of the proposed 2,010-acre high-density development. Clark County Commissioners will decide the fate of Red Rock Canyon on December 7, 2016,

โ€œI created Save Red Rock in 2005 in honor of a good friend, Don Albietz, who was hit and killed by a construction truck while cycling along the Red Rock Scenic Byway,โ€ explains Heather Fisher, SRR president. โ€œOur coalition is fighting high-density rezoning in the area because it would decrease safety for outdoor enthusiasts and change the rural character of Red Rock Canyon forever.

So far, more than 22,000 people have signed Save Red Rockโ€™s petition to protect this popular recreation area from high-density development. You can sign the petition here.
