The Alpine County Chamber of Commerce is proud to present the 2017 Tour of the California Alps – Death Ride cycling event taking place on Saturday, July 8, 2017 throughout Alpine and Mono Counties.

Recognized as one of the premier endurance events on the West Coast, the Death Ride has for the last 37 years welcomed riders from around the country and around the globe providing them with a challenging, memorable ride along the scenic roads of the Sierra Nevada mountains.

The course takes riders on a 129-mile journey along with 15,000 ft of climbing over Monitor Pass on State route 89 (8,314 ft), Ebbetts Pass on State route 4 (8,730 ft) and Carson Pass on State route 88 (8,580 ft). Along the way, riders will be treated to fully stocked rest stops staffed by hard-working Skeleton Squad volunteers and various non-profit volunteer groups providing them with a variety of food and drink options from sponsors including GU, Gatorade, CLIF Bar, Nature’s Bakery and Science in Sport. Both State routes 4 and 89 are closed to vehicle traffic from 5am to 12pm on Monitor Pass and from 5am to 3pm on Ebbetts Pass.

SAG support, radio communications, technical and medical support will be fully available for riders. For those that complete all five passes, ice cream from Schwans awaits them at the top of Carson Pass as a sweet reward. In addition to rest stops, riders can also partake in Friday night spaghetti dinner with live music and Saturday morning breakfast featuring coffee from Starbucks and end the event with the Saturday evening BBQ along with live music. Sierra Nevada Brewing Company will be on hand for riders looking to buy a much needed, ice cold pale ale. Riders can also check out the bike expo area with various rider products, gear and official Death Ride merchandise. Raffle tickets can also be purchased benefitting Alpine County Search and Rescue, with various prizes from our sponsors.
