As if taking second at the invitation-only Big Mountain Freeskiing and Riding Comp in the European Alps (only eight international skiers were invited) and winning the Red Bull Cold Rush’s Chinese Downhill Championship this past winter, he also had the luck to ski with Chris Davenport in the Chugach Range in Alaska for a segment in the latest Warren Miller installment, Playground.

The Great Ski Race @thegreatskirace is not only a cross-country ski race – it’s a cherished celebration deeply rooted in the Tahoe area, and the main fundraiser for Tahoe Nordic Search and Rescue (TNSAR) @tahoenordicsar. ❄️

2022 was a rough year for our long-time contributor @chrisvanleuven. On the heels of a bike crash injury, his hair started falling out in clumps due to an undiagnosed health condition. Then the unthinkable happened, when his house and most of his belongings burned down in Mariposa County’s Oak Fire.
In an article in our latest issue, Chris recounts how he was able to “fill his cup” with climbing, biking and writing through those tough times — and found himself happy to be “alive and thriving” in the Sierra foothills. 🧗 🚵 💻 💖

Roy Tuscany suffered a spinal injury in 2006. After his recovery he founded @hi5sfoundation, a non-profit that has helped hundreds of injured athletes and veterans from across the country.
“The massive thing I’ve recognized through this work is that sports are a byproduct of community,” Tuscany explains. “We know that if we can get people back to sport, we can use sport as a vehicle to get them back to community and social interaction. We use sport as a way to integrate people back into … people.”
