🎁 This Giving Tuesday, consider donating to the folks building the longest mountain bike trail in the world. It’s called Orogenesis, and it stretches from Canada to Cabo.
🚵♀️ The trail is 95% complete and there are a few rough spots in the middle (to put it lightly!). It will cost $5 per foot to complete and they could use your help.

Day 3 was tough. My riding partner had been exhausting herself trying to make a failing bike work. The shifting had gotten so bad that she was down to two gears and we were moving at about 5mph. She was clearly getting demoralized so we chose to hop a bus 10 miles to Siletz Bay where we got an inexpensive room at the cool and funky @anchorinn_lincolncity.
The following morning we managed to have a new bike delivered from @rei in Salem.
Day 4 was spent switching all the touring gear, bars, pedals and whatnot to the new ride. And eating, lots of eating with a stop at Shuckers Oyster House for a round of their famous jalapeño vodka infused oyster shooters.
Just like that, I could barely keep up.
Day 5 was glorious with many miles off 101. Around Otter Crest Loop, past Yaquina Head Lighthouse ending at South Beach State Park after a successfull foraging mission produced enough lobster mushrooms to share with other riders.
A big shout out to Elliot at Bike Newport for pouring us some draft IPA's while Joe made some needed adjustments to the new bike.
The Upper Tyrolian Trail, North Lake Tahoe’s newest single track mountain bike trail is now open above Incline Village, Nevada.
Spearheded by the @tambatahoe (TAMBA) with a $60,000 grant from the @tahoefund, the trail was built in collaboration with the @u.s.forestservice and @sensusradtrails, a trail building nonprofit by local freeride mountain bike athlete @camzink.

Please help save Yosemite’s Camp 4.
Yosemite Valley is the center of the universe for rock climbers. From Royal Robbins to Yvon Chouinard to Lynn Hill to Tommy Caldwell to Alex Honnold to countless others—the history of our sport is etched on the walls of Yosemite.
Unfortunately, under Yosemite’s current 100% digital reservation system, all the campsites in Yosemite Valley are continually booked many months in advance during the climbing season. A relatively small number of tech-savvy tourists book all the campsites and climbers get almost nothing. Climbers are forced to sleep hours away or pay for expensive lodging in the Valley. This makes it nearly impossible for us to follow in the footsteps of our heroes.

Last night we were excited to hear NPR's coverage of the Minden siren. For those who don't know, this is the last sundown siren in America and Adventure Sports Journal is proud to be a part of the movement to turn it off. Minden is a small town near Lake Tahoe.
Take a listen as a multi-racial group of activists, including ASJ co-founder Matt Niswonger, work together to stop the siren. Also included in this group, are Marty G Meeden and Kutoven Stevens who is on our current cover.
A big thanks to The Sum of Us podcast host Heather C. McGhee and Joaquin Cotler of Futuro Media for covering this important story.

⛰️ We were stoked to get this photo from our backpacking editor Matt Johanson. After years of reading and helping proof Matt's articles for ASJ, our wonderful Michele Lamelin got to be his trail angel this past weekend. Michele has been so inspired by Matt's backpacking stories, that she has gone on to sectioning the PCT with her dog Anneke. ⛺️ 🐕️
🗣️ Matt had just completed a 1300+ mile section of the PCT. Matt messaged us saying, "I had such a good time driving back from Crater Lake with Michele last night. Not just because I needed a ride so badly (there’s no public transportation there , so I don’t know what I would’ve done otherwise), but because it was so fun to get to know her and talk about our mutual interests like hiking, dogs and contributing to the magazine. We might even hike a section of the PCT in SoCal together next year." 📰
👏🏽 Our contributors come from all over the state, so having them get a chance to meet (and even be a trail angel) doesn't happen everyday.❗️
🙏🏼Thanks Matt for sharing your inspiring stories with ASJ readers, and thank you @michele_and_anneke for taking time out of your busy schedule to be Matt's trail angel. 😇

Bobby McMullen: 1964 – 2022
The cycling community lost one of its best ambassadors to the sport last week. Bobby McMullen fought an extensive battle with diabetes, cancer, kidney failure, and other health issues with humility, grit and grace.
"Blind Bobby" lost his vision 30 years ago and never let that get in the way of him hitting the trails. We were honored to have him on our cover back in 2012.
Bobby leaves behind his wife Heidi and daughter Ella. Bobby and Heidi were set to celebrate their 10 year anniversary later this month.
