The 12th Annual Shasta Ascension Backcountry Race is a spirited ski-mountaineering event hosted by the Friends of the Mount Shasta Avalanche Center at Mt. Shasta Ski Park, blending athletic challenge with a festive winter vibe. Racers on skis and splitboards ascend and descend under their own power along a timed backcountry course that weaves through advanced alpine terrain and checkpoints, making it great for experienced ski-mo competitors and adventurous winter athletes. This year’s Cosmic Ascension theme encourages costumes and fun, adding flair to both competition and camaraderie. Junior categories and a supportive local community atmosphere enhance the experience for participants and spectators alike.
