Carson City Off-Road Announces New Event Date of June 28-30

Two weeks later date will accommodate extra snowmelt in huge Sierra Nevada winter

In order to deliver on the objective of giving mountain bikers a true backcountry experience on world-class singletrack that challenges riders as much as it inspires & rewards, and allowing for extra snowmelt time in a potentially record-setting Sierra Nevada winter, Epic Rides today announced a date change of the Carson City Off-Road from June 14-16 to June 28-30.

“If you’ve been paying attention to the weather in the Sierra Nevada, they’ve been getting hammered with snowstorms since late December,” said Todd Sadow, President, and Co-Founder of Epic Rides. “We want to do the most we can to ensure that riders will be able to get up to the high country and capture the iconic views of Lake Tahoe, and thanks to the cooperation of our partners, we’ve been able to move the event back two weeks.”

According to the National Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) SNOTEL site at Marlette Lake (elevation 7,884 feet), there are eight feet of compacted snow, with several more feet on the way this weekend. Moving the event back two weeks will give the high summer sun angle and warmer temperatures added time to melt the snow and increase the chances of riders being able to reach the Marlette Flume Trail and Tahoe Rim Trail on Marlette Peak.

After a record-setting winter two years ago that did not allow riders to reach the high country for the second annual Carson City Off-Road, Epic Rides developed a “Plan C” route using lower elevation singletracks on the outskirts of Carson City, making a 16-mile loop configuration with multiple laps.

“Although Plan C was a challenging and fun course, deep down, we all knew a Plan A or B that allowed us up into the high country would be better for everyone, which prompted the date change,” said Sadow.

Sadow made specific mention of thanks to Carson City Combined Municipality, Nevada State Parks, Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest and event sponsors for working with Epic Rides to accommodate the date change.

With the new date announced, Epic Rides encourages all out-of-town guests to extend their trip to the Carson City area and stay for the 4^th of July holiday, exploring all the family-friendly adventures in the region.

“Moving the Carson City Off-Road to later in the month will not only improve the experience for the riders, but it will give riders and visitors a chance to enjoy an extended vacation,” said Lydia Bruegge, marketing manager for the Carson City Culture & Tourism Authority. “We hope participants take this as the perfect opportunity to join us for some of our great summer activities. We will have outdoor concerts, car shows, farmers markets and, of course, Fourth of July fireworks celebrations.”
