Running with family. Sweating with joy. Loving every step
Join Mini Mermaid Running Club and Young Tritons Running Club (collectively MMRC) on April 22nd at Santa Cruz County Fairgrounds for Run Sweat Love 5k/1k Family Fun Run. Run Sweat Love is a unique opportunity to get the whole family involved and spend time together doing something fun while sharing the same goal: crossing the finish line.
On race day, 900 Mini Mermaids & Young Tritons from 25 different schools in Santa Cruz County will be participating in this event. Participants in these after school running programs have trained for 6 weeks for this race day. Both programs center on teaching kids self-compassion through movement and mindfulness. Curriculum for the programs includes combating bullying by teaching kids they have a voice to stand up for themselves and others. Each program is led by volunteer coaches have who have worked with the girls in Mini Mermaids and boys in Young Tritons to build fitness and balanced living by utilizing movement and character-driven curriculum to help develop a child’s sense of strength, courage, and desire to be healthy and strong, heart, mind, and body.
“Run Sweat Love is about our community coming together,” said MMRC Executive Director Heidi Boynton. “This non-timed event is a celebration of family, community and our Mini Mermaids/Young Tritons crossing the finish line. There will be fun music, kids events, a family festival featuring local agencies serving the community, and an awesome start/finish line full of amazing volunteers cheering everyone on. This is one big party! There is something magical about crossing a finish line and Run Sweat Love give this moment to all ages, all walks of life, and all abilities.”
