New Video by NRS: Chicas Al Agua (Girls in the Water)

NRS’s latest film, Chicas Al Agua (Girls in the Water). Premiering online today and just in time for International Women’s Day, the film follows the journey of an all women’s group in Futaleufú, Chile that gives local young women the chance to challenge tradition, face their fears and discover their own potential through kayaking.

Despite growing up next to one of the world’s most famous rivers, many of the young women in Futaleufú never learned how to swim. Kayaking, like any other “rough” sport associated with adrenaline and risk, hasn’t really been an option for women as it has been for foreigners and men. This is where Chicas al Agua comes in.

“I don’t have fear anymore. I have respect,” says one student, Isabella.

Chicas al Agua is a completely free program, led by an all-female instructor team. The program focuses on teaching the young women of Futaleufú to kayak and to care for the river. Instead of being told, “you can’t” or “you’re not strong enough,” the girls are given the opportunity to find out what they are truly capable of.
