Join the Annual Art of Survival Century Bicycle Ride for a cycling experience that combines scenic riding with history and education. Set in the breathtaking Southern Oregon Klamath Basin and Northern California Tulelake Basin and Butte Valley, this ride is more than a tour—it’s a journey through time.
Unlike a typical race, this event highlights the rich cultural history, environmental issues, and geology of the region through ranger- or historian-led talks at rest stops. As you pedal along uncrowded backroads under the shadow of Mount Shasta, you’ll gain a deep understanding of the area’s past, including the Modoc War, one of the most significant conflicts in the region.
Cyclists will have the chance to visit key historical locations, including Captain Jack’s Stronghold, a natural fortress where 55 Modoc warriors resisted hundreds of U.S. soldiers for six months. Ride through the landscapes where battles were fought, and learn about the Modoc people’s struggle to remain in their homeland.
This ride offers more than exercise—it’s a chance to connect with history and nature while cycling through some of the most stunning landscapes in the region.
