Tahoe Off-road Triathlon (TORT) celebrates the natural environment of Lake Tahoe’s excellent terrain, trails, and blue water. One of the core events of Adventure Sports Week!

The swim occurs in one of the clearest, cleanest, and deepest lakes in North America, Lake Tahoe. Tahoe City is also home to some of the area’s most treasured mountain biking trails. The bike course features single track and double track, fields of wildflowers, and breathtaking Sierra views. The races start and finish is at Commons Beach on the shore of Lake Tahoe.

Distances: 1500-meter swim | 22-mile mountain bike | 5+ mile trail run

TORT and Relay

Swim two 750 meter laps with a 50-meter beach run (lake level dependent)
Ride 22 miles
Run 5+ miles

Tahoe Off-Road Triathlon SPRINT

Distances: 750m swim | 13-mile mountain bike | 3-mile trail run

Tahoe Off-Road Duathlon

Distances: 2-mile trail run | 22-mile mountain bike | 5+ mile trail run

Tahoe Off-Road Aquabike

Distances: Swim two 750 meter laps with a 50-meter beach run (lake level dependent) | 22-mile bike

🧗 Also in this issue, Doug Robinson, known as the “Father of Clean Climbing,” returns with part two of his clean climbing manifesto. His revolutionary ideas, first introduced in the 1972 Chouinard catalog, challenge climbers to reflect on their impact on nature.

📜Building on this theme of responsible climbing, we also highlight the Yosemite Climbing Associations Climber’s Credo, a grassroots agreement developed to address the proposed nationwide fixed anchor prohibition in Wilderness areas. This initiative promotes ethical climbing practices and aims to influence future regulations to preserve access.

🌲 Other stories include the Inyo Mountain Wilderness, solo bikepacking in the Lost Sierra, the indigenous-led effort to restore and paddle the Klamath River, climbing Mexico’s volcanoes, and the return of great white sharks along California’s coast.
