The Great Ski Race

The Great Ski Raceยฎ Sunday March 3, 2024

The Great Ski Race course ends where it begins, and features the epic Starratt Pass climb from our usual start zone at Tahoe XC. After Soup Station One, racers will keep going on the Fiberboard Freeway around Mt. Watson almost all the way to Northstar California, then swing back through whoop-dee-doos in the forest above Carnelian Bay and onto Tahoe XCโ€™s Blue Trail to finish on a spectacular downhill to right where they started at the Tahoe XC lodge in Tahoe City.

Cost & Deadlines

The cost of the race is $80 through February 29th ($30 if under 18); $90 on March 1-2 ($40 if under 18); and $120 if registering on race day ($60 if under 18). All race fees are non-refundable. Your entry fee buys you refreshments and hot lunch plus live music and dancing at the finish!

Donations above and beyond these amounts to the Tahoe Nordic Search & Rescue Team are always appreciated (all donations above and beyond race fees are tax-deductible; non-profit tax ID #94-2737988).

While you can register the day of the race,ย itโ€™s highly recommended that youย register in advance. On the Friday (12:00 PM โ€“ 5:00 PM) and Saturday (9:00 AM โ€“ 5:00 PM) before the race, and Sunday (race day) up until 8:30 AM, you can pick up your pre-race package at theย Tahoe Cross Countryย ski area.

Wave Starts

The start field is divided into wave starts. Wave 1 starts at 9:00AM sharp and the subsequent waves start at 3 minute intervals after that. When registering you will be asked to specify which wave you would like to start in.

Categories & Prizes

TGSR is considered a skate race, and the categories are broken down by gender (M/F) and age (10 year increments). Awards for the top 3 finishers in each age category will be awarded medals at the awards ceremony at approximately 12:00. Age groups are 9 and under, 10-11, 12-13,14-15,16-17,18-19, 20-29 and up by tens.

Party

A band will play from 11:30 to 3:00 PM. This means for one low price you will receive a groomed and supported nordic race, an Aprรจs ski party and an excellent warm meal with musical entertainment!
