Local Alpinist and Adventurer Dave Nettle Concludes 18th annual Alpenglow Sports Winter Speaker Series with “Ski Touring the Tyrol”
This free event benefits local nonprofit, Slow Food Lake Tahoe
On Thursday, March 7th, the 23-24 Alpenglow Sports Winter Speaker Series season, hosted by Tahoe Mountain Realty, comes to an end with series cofounder, and steward of the mountains, Dave Nettle. Through his show, “Ski Touring the Tyrol”, Dave will bring us along on his 25 year love affair with the Tyrol region; a journey filled with humor, expert tips, epic adventure, and absolute beauty. Come out to the Palisades Tahoe Olympic Village Events Center to enjoy the show in-person, or tune into the livestream via Alpenglow Sports’ Youtube Channel! Doors open at 6pm and the show starts promptly at 7pm. The show is FREE for the community and all ages are encouraged to attend. All bar, giveaway, and a portion of food proceeds benefits the nonprofit beneficiary of the evening, Slow Food Lake Tahoe.
The Alpenglow Sports Winter Speaker Series is an eagerly anticipated winter tradition for North Tahoe’s adventure community. With over 3,000 attendees annually, as well as a dynamic and global live stream component, the 18-year-old Alpenglow Winter Speaker Series has become one of the premier North American forums for adventure storytelling and community gathering.
This season has been one like never before with each presentation both filling the audience’s appetite for adventure by wowing them with stunning terrain and big lines, while also appealing to experiences that are inherent to being human, adventurer or not. It has been a season that reminds the collective of why we live in these mountains, and choose to be a part of this community. They both [the mountains and community] heal, uplift, teach, excite, and challenge us. With inspiring presentations from Michelle Parker, Jim & John Morrison, Elyse Saugstad, and Ingrid Backstrom, the runway has been set for Dave Nettle to wrap up the season with his contagious and unconditional love for adventure and the outdoors.
For the fifth Winter Speaker Series show, Dave will take us on a lively and humorous tour through the Tyrol via images and stories of some of his favorite adventures in this magical region famous for climbing, skiing, via ferrata, friendly locals and outstanding food and wine. The Tyrol region spans the borders of southern Austria and Northern Italy, and is a place of magnificent alpine beauty that includes some of the most dramatic peaks and valleys in the Alps, as well as the iconic Dolomites. While, Dave will pull from his long established career in the mountains to create this heartfelt ode to the region, he will then bring it back to present day to wrap up the evening with a short select presentation of backcountry ski touring images from the blockbuster 2022-23 winter and spring season in the Sierra Nevada and beyond.
Each show is dedicated to a different non-profit that has been selected through a rigorous application process, and to date, the Winter Speaker Series has raised over $1,350,000 for local organizations. Giveaway and bar proceeds plus a percentage of food sales, in conjunction with anonymous donations by the Donor Party, raise up to $75,000 per show for a local non-profit organization.
Dave’s show supports Slow Food Lake Tahoe (SFLT), an organization committed to connecting our community to the enjoyment of good, clean and fair food by inspiring a self-reliant food culture. They seek to educate the community about growing, preparing and accessing local and sustainable food. Through the Food Bank Garden, the Community Garden, Grow-Your-Own Classes, Community Skillshares, Salmon Buying Club, Compost Collection, Don’t Drop the Top, and other volunteer opportunities they offer countless options for community involvement and education.
Excited to support Slow Food Lake Tahoe? Dinner will be available for purchase at the event from MOGROG Rotisserie, with a percentage of proceeds benefiting SFLT. And all proceeds from the bar, including beer, wine, NA drinks, and snacks, will benefit SFLT.
In addition, TWO huge giveaways will directly support the local nonprofit thanks to brands throughout the outdoor industry! One will be for all in-person attendees who purchase tickets at the event, and the other will be for all who livestream the event and purchase giveaway tickets online. The prizes are different and you can enter both! Unlike previous years, both the in-person and online giveaway winners will be drawn at the event. All in-person winners and three online winners will be announced at the beginning of the show, and the remaining seven online winners will be announced directly after. Stay tuned to see if you won.
Register for the livestream HERE and receive one free giveaway ticket. Please note that you do not need to register for the in-person event, just show up!
If you or someone you know is interested in joining the Donor Party, there is still time to support the five nonprofits from this season! Email brendan@alpenglowsports.com to learn more.

The Alpenglow Winter Speaker Series blends two goals: 1) to inspire and motivate mountain athletes to pursue their own outdoor dreams and 2) to educate about, and raise funds for, non-profit organizations making a tangible difference in the North Lake Tahoe and Truckee community.
Five times per winter, a premier outdoor athlete presents an inspirational tale of adventure, creating a forum for motivation, inspiration and education. Past speakers of the Winter Speaker Series include Lynn Hill, Hilaree Nelson, Jeremy Jones, Emily Harrington, Cody Townsend, Alex Honnold, Adrian Ballinger, and more. The series runs from November through March at the Olympic Village Events Center at Palisades Tahoe. Every show is FREE to the public and all ages are encouraged to attend.

About the Donor Party:
The Donor Party arose in 2017 when Winter Speaker Series founder, Brendan Madigan, was approached by a community member who wanted to show his support by anonymously donating $2,500 to each of the five non-profits represented that season. Since then, The Donor Party has grown to over 75 engaged locals responsible for a massive community philanthropic effort. The result is a collective, game-changing impact that has made a difference in the fabric of the North Lake Tahoe and Truckee communities. To date, the Donor Party, in combination with the Winter Speaker Series, has raised over $1,350,000 for local organizations.
