Made in the USA from lightweight, flexible, and high-performance fabrics
Say goodbye to bulky bear canisters with Ursack — the first and ONLY IGBC approved bear-resistant bag. Lightweight and collapsible, Ursack carries the same amount of food as a bear canister without wasting volume and base weight.

How to Use Ursack
Tie cord in a knot
Tie the cord with a double overhand knot–tight–so that there is no opening at the top of the bag. If food is visible, you have packed too much in. If you can see it, a bear can get it.
Move away from camp
Store Ursack a safe distance from your camp site. Do not keep the bag in or near your sleeping bag or tent. If using more than one, separate them at least 25 yards.
Tie up to a strong branch
To keep it from being crushed or stolen, tie Ursack to a tree branch using a figure 8 or another knot that resists clinching, so that it can be untied easily. Alternatively, tie a secure knot and then counterbalance over a high (10′ +) tree branch – not a guarantee, but it will thwart some bears.
No tree, no problem. Ursack still performs if there isn’t a tree to secure it to. Try hiding it under a pile of rocks, and be sure to secure with a locking knot over the double overhand after clinching it shut. If you are using an OPSak and have been meticulous about keeping food smells off the outside, it is unlikely that a bear can find a well hidden Ursack.
DO
- DO Tie the cord with a double overhand knot – tight – so that there is no opening at the top of the bag. If food is visible, you have packed too much in. If you can see it, a bear can get it.
- DO Tie Ursack up to a strong branch so that it can’t be crushed or stolen. Bears have been known to chew through 5 inch branches to get to food.
- DO Check trailhead regulations.
- DO Keep any food item that could leak in a plastic bag inside the bag. Even though a bear may not be able to penetrate the bag, he may be able to crush the contents. If Ursack does get crushed, there won’t be a “food reward” that can be licked from the outside.
- DO Machine wash, no bleach line dry
DON’T
- DON’T keep Ursack in or near your sleeping bag or tent.
- DON’T keep it in camp. The bag must be stored a safe distance from your camp site.
- DON’T over stuff or force the OPSak to close.
- DON’T leave them next to each other. If using more than one, separate them at least 25 yards.
