Fat Tire Tuesday: Dirt Artists

We ride our bikes, and paint the dirt with our treads; some ride sweeping lines to the outside of the roots. Others take the angular, harsh lines and cut through the rock gardens like only a Cubist would.

ASJ staff were excited to see contributing writer Lauren Gregg sporting the Bronze on the women's pro Enduro podium. Gregg reports, "It was so exciting racing USA Cycling's first ever Enduro National Championship. They did an amazing job – the course was incredibly challenging and technical, the timing was flawless, and the event really tested racers' tech skills as well as their fitness."

The fourth stop of the California Enduro Series took place just over the California border in the beautiful town of Ashland, Oregon. With thunder storms saturating the ground during the previous week and all the way up to race day some 300 competitors were treated to cool temperatures, absolute hero dirt, and some of the best trails you can race on.

Bear Republic Brewing in Healdsburg is best known for their iconic Racer 5 IPA. As good as Racer 5 is, it unfortunately overshadows the rest of Bear Republic’s excellent line-up. Case in point is Bear Republic’s Grand Am Pale Ale, a hop forward Pale Ale that could probably pass for an IPA if you didn’t know any better.

Gear up for an epic adventure through the stunning Sierra Nevada. Don’t miss out on this legendary event! Nearly 90% of the 103-mile course is closed to vehicles, and the ride is fully supported with aid stations, a lunch stop, SAG vehicles, and medical support. 🥪 ⛰️

Cyclists have from sunrise to sunset to complete the entire course, and Class 1 and Class 3 pedal assist E-bikes are allowed. 🚴🏾‍♀️ 💪🏽

All State Parks in Big Sur Area Closed Due to Highway 1 Road Slip Out 🛑⁠

Due to the road slip out on Highway 1 at Rocky Creek in Monterey County, all State Parks in the Big Sur Area are now closed to day use and camping. ⛺️ That includes Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park, Andrew Molera State Park, Limekiln State Park, Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park and Point Sur State Historic Park. ⁠
⁠
State Parks will continue to work closely with Caltrans and CHP to assess impacts to the highway and will update closures as road conditions allow. 🚧All camping reservations will be cancelled, and refunds will be processed. ⁠
⁠
An exact timeline on when these parks will reopen depends on road repairs. For more on those repairs, please contact Caltrans. 🚥⁠
