Equal Pay for Equal Play Bill (AB 467) Signed Into Law

Sacramento CA –September 9, 2019 // Assemblymember Tasha Boerner Horvath is pleased to announce Assembly Bill (AB) 467 was signed into [California] law by Governor Gavin Newsom. Also called the “Equal Pay for Equal Play” measure, AB 467 addresses long-standing gender pay disparities in competitive sports. This bill requires sports prize equity for both male and female participants in all sporting competitions held on state lands.

“I am humbled and honored to see this bill signed into law, advancing the historic efforts of so many athletes and advocates standing up for equality,” said Assemblymember Boerner Horvath. “The overwhelming bipartisan support of this bill demonstrates that the State Legislature and Governor Newsom have the backs of women and girls throughout California.”

AB 467 requires equal prize compensation for all athletes, regardless of gender, as a condition for approving a lease or permit

GU Energy Labs Raises over $15,000 to Support NICA

Limited edition GU Energy Gel sales benefits National Interscholastic Cycling Association

Berkeley, CA – GU Energy Labs recently announced a donation of $15,000 to the National Interscholastic Cycling Association (NICA) through its GU Gives program. The donation came from a portion of 2018 sales of GU Energy Lab’s French Toast Energy Gel, a flavor developed in a partnership with NICA Student-Athletes.

In early 2018, GU Energy Labs partnered with NICA student-athletes to create a new Energy Gel flavor. The student-athletes visited GU’s Berkeley, California headquarters to learn about flavor science, nutrition and brainstorm flavor ideas. The French Toast flavor was created through this exercise, and students were also able to tour GU’s production facility to see their dream flavor become a reality.
