Ta-hoe Nalu 2018

THE TA-HOE NALU PADDLE FESTIVAL is celebrating its 12th year as the oldest and longest running SUP race event in the world, on the North Shore of Lake Tahoe at Kings Beach.

From the very first Ta-Hoe Nalu in 2007 to now, the event draws folks from all around the globe to the shores of Lake Tahoe to compete on SUPs, Prone and Outrigger canoes. Ta-Hoe Nalu has become a destination vacation family event for all ages and skill levels. The event embraces everyone from recreational, fitness paddlers, yoga, beginners, and elite athletes.

This year the First Stroke non-competitive fun guided paddle tours will be back with more tours, along with a 4-person team Sprint Elimination Challenge, yoga paddles, free Starboard’s SUP Polo, live music and raffles each day at the Kona Beer Garden, and new, lowered event registration prices.

The Jay Race 2016

The Jay Moriarity Memorial Paddleboard Race – “The Jay Race”

The Jay Moriarity Memorial Paddleboard Race, commonly known as the Jay Race, will celebrate its 15th anniversary this year. Hundreds of spectators and competitors will descend on Capitola and the beautiful waters of Monterey Bay for this unique event. Presented for the first time by New Leaf Community Markets, the Jay Race has both a 12-mile course and a two-mile short course, for both prone and stand-up paddleboarders.

For all-round paddlers, there is also the Waterman Challenge. This event is made up of a 500m swim, 1500m prone paddle and a 1000m stand-up paddle.

“We absolutely love the Waterman Challenge. It is definitely the most spectator friendly race,” says race organizer Duke Brouwer. “It keeps people on the beach. They don’t want to miss it. We could see close to a hundred competitors.”

Over 100 SUP athletes gather to kick off the Tahoe Cup Paddle Racing Series

I ran up to Tahoe for the Tahoe Cup on Donner Lake yesterday (Saturday) and encountered chilly, rainy but a calm lake to race on. Heading in to my fifth or sixth year of racing in the Tahoe Cup Memorial Weekend Race on Donner Lake, I am always ready for inclement weather. Memorial Day does not guarantee sunny and warm weather especially in Tahoe. In past years I have raced this race in the rain, chilling cold, wind and yes, one year it snowed. This year a little drizzle was not going to stop 109 paddle athletes from racing the 5 mile course on Donner Lake. Series offers competitive opportunities for both recreational paddlers and race enthusiasts

The Tahoe Cup Paddle Racing Series offers both the recreational paddler and the race enthusiast an opportunity to participate in SUP, prone paddleboard or OC1 class races on Donner Lake and Lake Tahoe May-September. The 2015 series invites all paddling craft to participate.

The 2015 series kicks off on Memorial Day weekend with the Series Opener – the Donner Lake Race – on Saturday, May 23rd. The Donner Lake Race is open to all paddling craft and welcomes participants of all ability levels, from the recreational paddler to the SUP elite racer. This event is a 5-mile race around the shoreline of Donner Lake. The start/finish area is open to spectators and will include a festive atmosphere and free demos provided by …

Santa Cruz Mountain Bike Festival
April 11-12, Santa Cruz

This eco-conscious, family-friendly event was created as a Mountain Bikers of Santa Cruz (MBoSC) fundraiser to celebrate the world class mountain bike facilities, riders, and cycling industry of Santa Cruz county, with proceeds benefiting local bike projects. Growing year after year with the generous support of its sponsors, volunteers and community, the festival is a testament to the depth of the mountain bike culture in Santa Cruz County. The 6th annual event takes place at San Lorenzo Park the weekend before the Sea Otter Classic in nearby Monterey. Activities include bike demos, skills clinics, an all-new poker ride, the popular aerial jump bag, a vendor fair, expanded kids’ area, a beer garden and food court, raffles, live music and more.
