Free-To-Watch Climbing Web Series Hand Holds Featuring Beth Rodden and Others

To Launch Crowdfund Campaign End of July

If you have ever felt the impossibility of pursuing a passion after a significant life change, you are not alone. Hand Holds: Climbing after Parenthood is a free-to-watch interview web series coming soon. How do the pros continue climbing after kids? This series explores the challenges of rock climbing after having kids through candid and surprising conversations with parents who are well-known pro climbers: Beth Rodden, Majka Burhardt, Eddie and Anna Taylor, and Jon and Jess Glassberg, among others.

surprising conversations with parents

Allyson Gunsallus (Director/Producer) had been climbing recreationally for 15 years when she became a first-time parent in November 2021 and has set out to create the resource she wanted—but could not find—in her first few months postpartum. With an award-winning crew including cinematographer Samuel Crossley (Free Solo) and editor Taylor Keating (Reel Rock, The Incredible Lamont) and through interviews filmed on location, the cast focuses on topics ranging from postpartum recovery and childcare to logistics of climbing and simple tips for families. Of the interviewees, Gunsallus says, “These are people who have climbed some of the hardest routes in the world; if they have challenges with climbing after parenthood, we can feel better about our own limitations.”

Hand Holds is in production now and will launch a crowdfund campaign at the end of July to offset costs for the project. Backers of the project will contribute meaningfully to the overall mental health of the community and to a tool that eases large life transitions for climbers. The first episode will be released by Spring 2025.
