Santa Cruz Mountain Bike Festival celebrates the world class mountain biking facilities, riders and cycling industry of Santa Cruz County

APTOS, CA โ€“ January 10, 2014 Mountain Bikers of Santa Cruz (MBoSC) is proud to announce the return of the Santa Cruz Mountain Bike Festival (SCMBF) to Aptos Village for its fifth year on April 5-6, 2014โ€”the weekend before the Sea Otter Classic in nearby Monterey.

The Santa Cruz Mountain Bike Festival was created to celebrate the world class mountain bike facilities, riders, and cycling industry of Santa Cruz county and continues to grow year after year with the generous support of our sponsors, volunteers, and community. In just its fourth year, the 2013 eco-conscious festival drew over 9,000 attendees and 395 registered participantsโ€”a 50% increase in attendance and 220% increase in registered participation over 2012. The success of the event is a testament to the depth of the mountain bike culture in Santa Cruz county.

The family-friendly two day, volunteer-run, festival includes competitive events for pros and amateurs alike, a kidsโ€™ rodeo and fun lap, bike demos, skills clinics, an industry exposition area, food court, beer garden, live music and more for bike enthusiasts, family members, and friends. The event reflects what Santa Cruz is all about: loving the outdoors, meeting friendly people, kicking back and immersing yourself in your favorite sport.

FESTIVAL REMAINS AT POPULAR APTOS VENUE FOR 2014

MBoSC is thrilled to report the festivalโ€™s return to its popular venue on the Barry Swenson Builder propertyโ€”site of the world renowned Aptos Post Office Jumps and the Epicenter Pump Trackโ€”in Aptos Village. This year will mark the end of this festival venue but MBoSC expresses sincere appreciation for Barry Swenson Builderโ€™s generosity and support over the past several years. Club President Mark Davidson enthuses, โ€œWe are very grateful to Barry Swenson Builder for allowing the festival in Aptos Village one last time. They were the driving force for getting the approval from the County of these two temporary bike parks on their property. These parks have been an integral part of the festival and we couldnโ€™t do it without the support of Barry Swenson Builder.โ€ Jesse Nickell, Sr. Vice President of Construction for Barry Swenson Builder adds, โ€œBarry Swenson Builder has provided the Santa Cruz Mountain Bike Festival venue for the past four years. We initially supported the temporary bike parks to show a social need for bike parks so that permanent parks can be built.โ€

FOX CONTINUES LOYAL COMMITMENT AS TITLE SPONSOR

MBoSC is thrilled to announce FOX‘s return as the Santa Cruz Mountain Bike Festivalโ€™s title sponsor. 2014 marks the fourth year that the Scotts Valley-based suspension products manufacturer has offered title sponsorship support to this grassroots event that raises funds for bike projects throughout Santa Cruz county. FOX’s generous support contributes a great deal to the festival’s success and demonstrates the importance local community to this world-wide industry leader. Mark Jordan, FOX Global Communications Manager, affirms โ€œItโ€™s great having the Santa Cruz Mountain Bike Festival right in our backyard. The atmosphere is welcoming and there is everything from pro and amateur racing to bike demos and kidsโ€™ events. Itโ€™s fun for the whole family.โ€

POPULAR ACTIVITIES AND EVENTS RETURN

The 2014 festival will bring back popular events from previous years such as the 831 Amateur Jump Contest and Pro Jam, Pump Track Pandemonium, Kat Sweetโ€™s Sugar Showdown Santa Cruz, bike skills clinics, and family favorites Kidsโ€™ Rodeo and Fun Lap… PLUS other fun celebratory and competitive events are in the works! Bike demos from the industryโ€™s top brands will take center stage once again and Shuttle Smith Adventures will be on hand to shuttle you up to some of the best singletrack in the Santa Cruz areaโ€”Soquel Demonstration State Forest (Demo). Add in a diverse expo area, a beer and food court featuring local brew & eats, live music and other entertainment and, well, needless to say itโ€™s going to be an incredible weekend for two wheeled enthusiasts in Santa Cruz County!
