July 20-21, 2019 • Truckee, CA

The Donner Lake Triathlon takes place over two days in July with a Sprint Distance Triathlon and Kids’ Triathlons taking place on Saturday, and the Olympic and Half Ironman Distance Triathlons and Aquabike, Duathlon events taking place on Sunday.

For years the Donner Lake Triathlon has been and remains the favorite triathlon of many. It’s no wonder as the event features an epic setting, a beautiful and challenging course, and is located very near Truckee and North Lake Tahoe.

2019 also marks the 9th annual Donner Lake Kids Triathlon and the 7th annual Donner Lake Half Triathlon. New for 2019 organizers are offering a Duathlon (2-mile run, 24-mile bike, 6.5-mile run). They welcome you to Truckee and North Lake Tahoe so that you can experience one of the world’s best sporting playgrounds.

The Donner Lake Triathlon course showcases some of the most majestic terrain in the Sierra. The swim starts in the crystal alpine waters of Donner Lake from historic West End Beach. After swimmers exit and transition to the bike, they climb up to Donner Pass where the views of the lake and surrounding mountains are truly spectacular. With the route closed to auto traffic, the riders are rewarded with an exhilarating trip back down the pass to the same transition area at West End Beach. From here riders leave the bike behind, lace up their running shoes and enjoy a beautiful run around Donner Lake. At the finish, triathletes receive a unique finisher medal, cold beverage, and BBQ. Many opt to hang out the rest of the day cheering on their fellow competitors from beach chairs set up on the sand listening to live music and cooling their tired legs in the water. A memorable finish to an epic day!
