Santa Cruz, CA – October 3, 2013 – Anticipation is high throughout the mountain bike industry and local community as the BELL Santa Cruz Super Enduro at Soquel Demonstration State Forest (SDSF, commonly referred to as Demo) draws near. The October 11-13 event, presented by Mountain Bikers of Santa Cruz (MBoSC), will raise funds for Santa Cruz area trails including MBoSC’s latest project, a 4-mile Flow Trail at Demo. The SCSE is a weekend-long event filled with racing, riding and rad activities to enjoy with good friends, on some of the best trails in Santa Cruz.
The race itself will run on Saturday, October 12 (trails will be closed to the public) and will be followed on Sunday, October 13 by a Play Day that includes bike demos, pro-led rides and shuttled trail work. Although all 200 race spots sold out just over 2 hours from registration opening, this event welcomes spectators and volunteers, both being an excellent way to be involved in this celebration of the spirit of enduro and all mountain riding.
To fully enjoy the weekend’s festivities, racers and spectators alike are encouraged to take advantage of the SCSE comprehensive camping package ($30 per person) which includes a tent spot for two nights (Friday and Saturday) plus three meals (Saturday breakfast and dinner; Sunday breakfast), plenty of beer (provided by Ninkasi Brewing), an outdoor double feature (Anthill Films’ Not Bad & SecondBase Films’ Arrival) PLUS live music.
On the schedule for Sunday’s “Play Day” are:
-
FREE BIKE DEMOS (10 am / Camp Loma) – Marin, Norco, Santa Cruz, Specialized, Trek (Epicenter Cycling) will showcase their enduro-specific and all mountain bikes ideally suited for the trails at Demo.
-
FREE PRO-LED FUN RIDES ON COURSE TRAILS (rides start at 10:30am / meet at Camp Loma at 10am) – Santa Cruz local pro downhill champ and Dirt Series coach Kathy Pruitt and Santa Fe Brewing–Pivot Cycles pro cross country and enduro rider Macky Franklin will show riders a great time and share their own riding experiences.
-
TRAIL WORK (time TBD) – Riders will have the opportunity to give the Demo forest back some love – potentially on the new Flow Trail. Participation will be rewarded with free shuttle rides courtesy Shuttle Smith Adventures.
The BELL Santa Cruz Super Enduro will cap off the inaugural season of the highly successful California Enduro Series (CES).
