Sunny and warm weekend ahead for Paddlefest
The Santa Cruz Paddlefest — a prestigious paddle event that features many of the world’s top ranked professionals in Santa Cruz, California — returns for its 29th annual contest next weekend. World-class competition kicks off Friday, March 13 through Sunday, March 15, and will conclude with the illustrious crowning of the 2015 King & Queen of Surf City presented by SUP the Mag at Steamer Lane; inviting fans everywhere to watch all the action on the cliffs overlooking this famed break.
SUP the Mag has once again generously offered a $2,000 prize purse to be awarded to the top male and female competitors in the Elite Surfing competition AND the Elite Division of the Covewater Surf City Paddleboard Race combined.
“The Santa Cruz Paddlefest is such an awesome event in a great town that really epitomizes the waterman culture,” says SUP magazine’s Joe Carberry. “To win the combined event at the Paddlefest — at such a killer venue — is a legitimate accomplishment. Paddlers need to be able to race and surf at an incredibly high level. It really highlights well-rounded paddling and we’re honored to be involved.”
With the weather forecast looking ideal for racing, event organizers are expecting a record turnout for the Covewater Surf City Paddleboard Race on Saturday, March 14th. Cowells beach is expected to be packed with competitors from California, Oregon, Hawaii and as far away as England all eager to get on the water and and race in one of paddling’s most beautiful venues.
Online registration is now closed, but registration is available on site for $75 on race day. Visit paddleguru.com for more information.
