The 44th Annual Death Ride

Registration is still open for riding the 44th annual Tour of the California Alps – Death Ride® starting in Markleeville, California this July. The 103-mile road cycling tour includes more than 14,000 feet of climbing on Sierra Nevada roads, traversing both sides of Monitor Pass, Ebbett’s Pass, and Pacific Grade. Nearly 90% of the course is closed to vehicles, and the ride is fully supported with aid stations, a lunch stop, SAG vehicles and medical support. The traditional vendor filled cycling expo and finish line, held at Turtle Rock Park, includes bike shop merchants, food vendors, massage booth, live band, raffles and our longtime supporter and Platinum Sponsor, Sierra Nevada Brewing, will be in attendance to celebrate our riders and community.

Three-time Death Ride Finisher – says: “As a 6-pass finisher for the past three consecutive years at the Tour of the California Alps – Death Ride, I can confidently say there’s nothing quite like it. This event isn’t just a ride — it’s a test of will, endurance, and heart. Each year, those 103 miles and 14,000+ feet of climbing across Monitor, Ebbett’s, and Pacific Grade Passes pushed me to my limits and beyond. But with every grueling ascent and breathtaking descent, I’m reminded why I come back — the challenge, the people – the community, the camaraderie and the sheer beauty of the California Alps and Sierra Nevada. Crossing that finish line after conquering all six passes never gets old. It’s a feeling of accomplishment that stays with me long after the event ends. If you’re looking to challenge yourself like never before, there’s no better place to do it than on these legendary roads. — Dennis StaAna 2022 | 2023 | 2024.”

“This year, we are encouraging new ridership to experience the scenic California Alps on 90% closed roads. Participants are welcome to try 1, 2 or 3 passes and are not required to complete all six HC climbs. Class 1 & 3 e-bikes for riders 12 years and older are allowed and encouraged. The ride is a complete event start to finish and fully supported by 200+ incredible volunteers. We hope to inspire riders new to the Death Ride, recovering from an injury or looking for that next multi-generational family challenge.” – says Curtis Fong

Cyclists have from sunrise to sunset to complete the entire course. Due to the size and scope of the event, Highway 89 from Markleeville to the Highway 89/Highway 4 junction will be closed on July 12th from 5am to noon, and Highway 4 from Markleeville to Lake Alpine is closed from 5am to 4pm.
