¡Vamos a México todos! Get those passports renewed and brush up on your Spanish because you don’t want to miss Baja Mexico’s premier mountain bike festival which takes place over Memorial Day weekend at the world famous Horsepower Ranch in Ensenada, just 90 miles south of San Diego.
Packet pick up for the festival’s bike races will open on Friday, May 24, with the races and festivities taking place on Saturday and Sunday, May 25-26. Libations will be offered from ten local breweries and wineries, and delicious food will be served such as carne asada, rice, beans, and handmade tortillas, as well as freshly caught seafood. And, of course, don’t forget the classic churro!
There’s something for everyone to enjoy at the festival whether you love music, relaxing poolside soaking in the Baja sun rays, or riding your bike. A brand new cross country mountain bike course wraps around the ranch, covering ten miles with over 1,500 feet of elevation on 85% single track. The event will also feature a dual slalom and speed & style course built and designed by downhill racer Kevin Aiello. The festival’s mountain bike enduro race, the Ensenada Enduro, will kick off the 2019 season of the California Enduro Series (CES). For those who are not yet racing, but are curious about enduro, a new event — the Grand Fonduro — will be the perfect introduction, getting you out riding two of the five stages that the CES racers will be using.
Ensenada Bike Fest’s Lou Mollineda says, “Baja California is known as the ‘Cinderella of the Pacific’ … a magical place. Everyone knows Baja for its awesome fishing, Baja 1000, and friendly people … and very soon, the Ensenada Bike Fest!”
