Groveland Ranger District, Stanislaus National Forest and the Groveland Trail Heads present Trail Building Workshop and Chainsaw Certification Course

Press Release // Groveland – In October of 2015, the Groveland Ranger District of the Stanislaus National Forest and the Groveland Trail Heads mountain bike club presented the first-ever Trail Stewardship Summit in Groveland, CA. The 2015 event was supported by an experimental agreement between the US Forest Service and the International Mountain Bicycling Association (IMBA), and was a big success.

The Groveland Ranger District, Stanislaus National Forest and the Groveland Trail Heads are building on last year’s success with courses this October offering more time outside dedicated to “learning by doing.” A Trail Building Workshop will run October 8-9 and topics will include trail design and flagging, switchback construction and maintenance, tread maintenance and hardening, rock moving and shaping, as well as an opportunity for folks to showcase their projects and innovative ideas. There will be something for every type of trail user including hikers, equestrians, mountain bicyclists, and off-highway vehicle riders. Instruction will be provided by representatives from the US Forest Service, National Park Service, California Conservation Corps, and Contour Logic. The event is an excellent opportunity to network with various trail groups from across the west and learn from one another.

A Chainsaw Certification Course October 10-12 is also available, and can be taken with the Trail Building Workshop or separately. The Chainsaw Certification Course requires a current First Aid certification.

There are three options for registering:

Option 1 – October 8-12 – 2-day Trail Building Workshop plus 3-day US Forest Service Chainsaw Certification Course including lunch on Saturday and Sunday and snacks throughout  training: $50.00 per person

Option 2 – October 8-9 – 2-day Trail Building Workshop ONLY, including lunch on Saturday and Sunday and snacks throughout training: $50.00 per person

Option 3 – October 10-12 – 3-day US Forest Service Chainsaw Certification Course ONLY, including snacks throughout training: $10.00 per person

Registration is limited to 50 people for the Trail Building Workshop and 15 people for the Chainsaw Certification Course.
