Pure Fun, Full Speed at Mammoth Mountain Bike Park
Mammoth Mountain’s snow season ended a bit earlier this year, leaving towering snowbanks for the dedicated trail crew to tackle in preparation for opening the premier bike park in the U.S. After weeks of intense effort raking trails and perfecting jumps, Mammoth Mountain Bike Park is ready for action and it’s now time for full-on summer shredding.
With 16 trails currently open and more on the way, it’s the perfect season for jumps, slashes, and wall rides.
Mammoth Bike Park delivers the ultimate mountain biking experience for all skill levels set against a truly spectacular backdrop in the Eastern Sierra mountains. Whether it’s your first time riding on dirt or you’re a downhill expert, this park delivers the ultimate high-alpine riding experience for everyone. The 80+ miles of lift-served singletrack offers plenty of pavers, berms, jumps, and drops for all-day fun. Let this guide you to navigating Mammoth’s Bike Park and beyond this summer.
Game Plan for Beginners
It all starts in the Discovery Zone. With shorter trails, entry-level terrain, and a quick 2.5-minute lift, this area was built to help novice riders progress. Discovery and Adventure are the perfect trails to start your day. Both feature smooth surfaces and wide turns.
From there, plan to move on to the Explorer trail, which is a bit steeper, has some banked paver turns, and provides access to the Skills Park, where you can work your way up from small drops to intermediate rainbow bridges.
For a fun end to your day, grab a few laps on Discotech, a gravity-fed pump trail that is also part of the Discovery Zone.
Game Plan for Seasoned Riders
Those looking for trails from advanced – pro have endless ways to get rad at the Mammoth Bike Park. After conquering classics like Shotgun and Richter give Velocity a try. Starting from McCoy Station, this trail strikes the perfect balance between high-speed and technical rock gardens.
After that check out Chain Smoke, also starting from mid-mountain, Chain Smoke is rowdy! With some of the most technical rock gardens in the U.S., we understand if you need to walk around a few. Both of these trails are easy to lap on the lower Panorama Gondola.
For jumps galore be sure to lap Lower Twilight Zone, Pipeline, and Smooth Operator. Other advanced/expert-rated trails not to miss: Flow, Boomerang, and Follow Me on the Canyon Lodge side of the mountain.
Top of the Line Rentals
Skip the hassle of transporting your bike up to the mountain and let the experts set you up with the perfect ride fitted to your body type and riding style. Mammoth rental shops offer an entire fleet of top-of-the-line mountain bikes for adults and children that are ideal for learning to ride all types of terrain. We’re talking hardtails, enduro, downhill, full suspension, and more.
Their fleet also includes plenty of eBikes for more power to those pedals on the hill or around town. Be sure to ask how you can save on rentals, as there are often great packages to take advantage of.
Lesson Then Session
It’s always a good idea to tap into the local instructors so you can improve your skills and be guided to secret spots for some of the best terrain you might not have found on your own.
Two-Wheeled Fun Beyond the Hill
Conquer more high-alpine trails around town and up in the beautiful Lakes Basin area, where you can enjoy miles of dirt trails and paved paths that take you to gorgeous lakes and vistas.
Little riders will love getting a feel for whoops and berms on a STACYC electric bike up at the Adventure Center at Main Lodge, where there’s a specially built pump track just for these fun stability bikes.
Mammoth also hosts a variety of two-wheeled events throughout the summer, including the Pedalpalooza mountain bike race in August and the Gran Fondo road race in September.
