The 2016ย Jay Race, held in Capitola on June 18, marked 15 years of celebrating the inspiring life of Jay Moriarity. Adventure Sports Journal is proud to be one of the original sponsors of this grassroots event and The Jay Race has been a part of the ASJ Roadshow since the beginning.

This year’s event was blessed with great weather and a field of athletes traveling from near and far. Hundreds of athletes and spectators came to enjoy the race in scenic Capitola. New Leaf Community Market was there with food and drinks and Adventure Sports Journal was lucky enough to be set up right next to them.

The event featured a challenging 12-mile long course and a two-mile short course for both prone and stand-up paddleboarders. There was also the Waterman Challenge and Kids Osbtacle Course. This family-friendly event was blessed with great weather and as always had an overall great vibe.

Kim Moriarity, Duke Brouwer, Chris Hollingsworth, Frosty, Bob Pearson and a team of others were there to get the day started off right at the opening ceremony. Beautiful views of Monterey could be seen and there was a nice swell bringing surfers to the left of the jetty, all in the spirit of celebration and competition on the water, and to remember to “Live Like Jay.”
