Running with the Bears Marathon, Half & 10K

A destination running event stays the course, with limited spots and social distancing accommodations

Now in its 10th year, RUNNING WITH THE BEARS, is happening on Saturday, August, 15th, 2020. This one-of-a-kind running event supports the Mountain Circle Family Services, Inc. — a non-profit community-based organization, committed to ensuring stability and life-sustaining changes for foster and adoptive children. Running with the Bears serves as a qualifying race for the Boston Marathon and historically draws people from around the world to participate in its marathon, half-marathon and 10K.

Due to Covid-19, there will be reduced entries available.

This year’s event will be limited to 150 entrants total, 50 participants per category. The event, located in Greenville, CA, considered part of Plumas National Forest, 150 miles north of Sacramento and 100 west of Reno, Nevada, serves as the ultimate road trip getaway for all levels of runners. The race courses are mostly paved, flat and pass by meandering rivers and creeks with views of the Indian and Genesee Valleys. (Bears have only been seen once over the past 10 years)

What makes Running with the Bears uniquely different from most endurance races is the inclusion of dogs as “participants”.

From dogs in strollers to dogs running alongside their master, four-legged family members are wholeheartedly welcome. Last year there were 75 dogs that participated in the event. The race course aid stations include dog treats and water bowls, along with the standard fare of hydration drinks and nutrition for the runners.

Running with the Bears offers an outdoor destination experience for the entire family. From camping to hiking, biking and water sports, there’s something for everyone. Lodging options range from camping (Taylorsville Campground), to rustic cabins (Coppercreek Camp) to local hotels.
